  1.                                 Sciatica
  2. SYMPTOMS. A severe pain that follows along the path of the sciatic nerve.
  3. The pain may begin in the buttock area and go down the back of the thigh
  4. and lower leg to the ankle.
  5. CAUSES. An inflammation of the sciatic nerve that may be caused by rupture
  6. of a spinal disk or osteoarthritis of the lower spine. There may be pressure
  7. on the root of the nerve in the spine. It may also be induced by a vitamin
  8. deficiency or diabetes.
  9. TREATMENT. Medication may be prescribed.
  10. .Use of a firm mattress and local heat may be helpful.
  11. .Surgery may be required to remove the ruptured disk.
