- Sciatica
- SYMPTOMS. A severe pain that follows along the path of the sciatic nerve.
- The pain may begin in the buttock area and go down the back of the thigh
- and lower leg to the ankle.
- CAUSES. An inflammation of the sciatic nerve that may be caused by rupture
- of a spinal disk or osteoarthritis of the lower spine. There may be pressure
- on the root of the nerve in the spine. It may also be induced by a vitamin
- deficiency or diabetes.
- TREATMENT. Medication may be prescribed.
- .Use of a firm mattress and local heat may be helpful.
- .Surgery may be required to remove the ruptured disk.
